You’re Human. You need a vacation.

You’re Human. You need a vacation.

As a creative I feel the need to travel. No wait….as a human I feel the need to travel, and wow, does it benefit my creativity! A HUGE thank you to my boss for giving me the opportunity. What is it about a vacation that does the body and mind so good? For me, these four things come to mind:

Relax. Rest. Rejuvenate.

Vacation gives the psychological relief of not having to meet deadlines. It’s nice to go to bed and not have to think about the to-dos of tomorrow. Vacation is also a chance to rest. During the work week I don’t always get enough sleep. Isn’t the suggested healthy amount 8 hours? Yeah. Doesn’t usually happen so sleeping in is a bonus.

I don’t know about you, but beautiful things lift my spirit. A gorgeous view of nature, a painting, some solid music; it all helps me to be more creative at work. I never get tired of seeing or hearing beauty. Do you? Does anyone? I could look at the same sunset every night and not be disappointed. Beauty is always new and inspiring.

Getting outside.

There’s something about it. Maybe it’s the fresh air, the warm sun on your face, the sense of not being confined by an office or building. Yeah. That’s probably it. But even better than just being outside is getting in the thick of nature with nothing around you but wilderness. I have to thank my husband for helping me appreciate this as much as I do now. Our family vacations often include this. There’s a peace and simplicity about it that you just can’t experience on a daily basis especially if you are from a big city. Try it. Surround yourself with nature.

Expand the mind.

Whether it’s taking a good book down to the beach or going to a museum, I love expanding my mind with new ideas. There are so many doors in the brain that are waiting to be opened. For example, I started reading a book on metaphysics just to give my brain some mental push-ups to do. I am not saying I understood it all but what I did grasp all I can say is…Mind. Blown.

I hope this gives you some motivation to take that vacation you know you need to take. Not only will it do your mind and body good, but it helps to be more productive at work. Once I am over that post vacation depression (joking sort of) I am ready and raring to get back into work life and I have the energy to give it all I have. Plus, I think my coworkers like me more.

Remember, passion inspires.
